Joan C. Bowman, 54, a resident of Charleston, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the family residence. She courageously battled two forms of cancer for several years, and is now free and home with her Savior. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. She was a R.N. with Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga for ten years. She was preceded in death by her father, David Braley. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mitchell (Mickey) Bowman of Charleston; two daughters and son-in-law, Amanda and Tim Burnette of Cleveland and Brittany Bowman of Charleston; five grandchildren, Cooper, Gavin and Kendall Burnette, Landon and Bryson Bowman; mother, Tommie Braley of Ooltewah; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deborah and Dewayne Hildreth of Ooltewah, Rhonda and Jerry Kirtley of Harrison and Lisa Braley of Ooltewah; sister-in-law and husband, Tanda and Melvin Walker of Charleston; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leroy and Geri Bowman of Charleston; two nieces, Dana and Halei Kirtley; three nephews, David Hildreth, Kyle and Blake Walker. A celebration service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Westwood Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Smartt and Russ Coffey officiating. Interment will follow in McDonald-Eastview Cemetery at Snow Hill. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and also from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Westwood Baptist Church prior to the service.
