Edna Bates Clayton, 90, resident of McDonald, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in a Chattanooga healthcare facility. She was retired from Duracell and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Benton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mellie Young Bates, and siblings: Annie Bates Martin, Ollie Mae Branam, Mary Bates Sutton, Joe Bates, Charlie Bates, Will Bates and Herbert Bates. She is survived by three daughters and spouses: Mable and Steve Denny of McDonald, Irene and Donald Shahan of Charleston, and Wanda and Dewey Odom of Birchwood; four grandchildren: Leon Shahan, Donna Symonds, Teresa Scoggins and Tammy Rinehart; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Bates of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2011, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. John Frank Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in Benton Memorial Gardens concluding with a white dove release ceremony. Bill Porter, Ethan Sutton, Matthew Carroll, Dillon Stevenson, Tyler Stevenson, Dennis Bates, Ted Johnson, Brandon Sandford and Jeremy Henderson will serve as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends from 3 ? 5 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
