James “Jim” E. Ownby, 93, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2011 in a Cleveland healthcare facility. He was a native of Cleveland but lived most of his life in Chattanooga. He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church in Chattanooga. He was retired from Ernest Holmes Wrecker Company after forty three and a half years of service. Mr. Ownby was the son of the late Oscar H. Ownby and Maudie L. Armstrong Ownby and was also preceded in death by his wife, Dicie Josephine Ownby; sons: Norman Larry Ownby, Allen Charles Ownby, Arlie Bruce Ownby; three sisters: Edna Renner, Margie Stephenson, Essie Brackin; one brother, Roy Ownby. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Billy W. and Patti Ownby of Cleveland; seven grandchildren: David Ownby, Rachel Teas, Philip Ownby, Helen Kay Wright, Patricia Ann Ownby, Rachel Murray and Shelli Passavant; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Brackin of Cleveland; two brothers: Ralph Ownby and Lewis Ownby both of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Kirby Ownby officiating. A white dove release ceremony will be held at the funeral home following the service. Interment will follow in Cumberland View Cemetery in South Pittsburg, TN. His family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the funeral home.
