James Robert Underwood, 77, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 3, 2011. He retired from Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he worked in the Metallurgical Laboratory, doing research and development. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and reading. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Emma Jewel Underwood and son, Gary Stephen Underwood. Survivors include his wife, Lola Withrow Underwood; one daughter, Cindy (Darren) Pew; two grandsons, Corey and Justin Urban; two sisters, Louise (Calvin) Rominger of Ooltewah and Linda Faye (Bobby) Scott of Ooltewah; brother-in-law, Larry (Carolyn) Withrow of Cleveland; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Dady of Cleveland and Bonnie Hunt of Chattanooga; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Walker officiating following the visitation.
