Edward Leighton Rogers, 79, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday morning, April 21, 2011, at his home. He was born October 13, 1931, in Hamilton County to the late Oscar George Rogers and Hallie Allorah Friar Rogers. He was a 1950 graduate of Bradley Central High School. He spent his career working at South Central Bell/Bellsouth from where he retired in 1993, after 38 years. Among other pastimes, he loved to spend his time hunting and fishing with his sons, grandson, and friends. He was a member of Black Fox United Methodist Church. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mary Elizabeth Smith Rogers; son: Bobby Rogers and his wife, Carolyn Moore Rogers; son: James Rogers and his wife, Diane Giles Rogers; son: Donald Rogers; daughter: Allorah (Lorrie) Rogers Duke and her husband, Billy Duke, all of Cleveland; grandchildren: Lindsay Rogers, Jeremy Rogers and his wife, Stephanie Peterson Rogers, Jennifer Rogers, Stacey Rogers, Travis Duke, and Emily Duke, all of Cleveland; Jason Rogers, of Nashville; and Josh Rogers and his wife, Julie Fletcher Rogers, of Spartanburg, S.C.; 4 great-grandchildren; brother: Tommy Rogers and his wife, Penny Lackey Rogers; sisters: Ellen Jean Rogers McSpadden and her husband, Henry McSpadden; Martha Rogers Brown and her husband, J.P. Brown; and Mary Rogers Moore; brother-in-law: Roy Smith and his wife, Lib Rucker Smith; also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April, 23, 2011 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home followed immediately by a memorial service, Pastor Travis Humbard officiating. In lieu of flowers, Edward has expressed he would like memorials to be made to Black Fox United Methodist Church Building Fund.
