Sallie Mae McCann

October 25, 1928 — January 25, 2011

Sallie Mae McCann, 82, a resident of Tellico Plains, went to be with her loved ones on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. She was employed at Tennessee Enamel Plant, she was a “Rosie Rivitor” during WWII, she was also employed at Domestic Laundry and Jack’s Cleaners in Cleveland. Sallie worked at Children’s Hospital in Umatilla, Florida then returned to Cleveland and continued with employment at Hardwick Clothes and Garden Terrace Nursing Home. She was a volunteer and a member of the Monroe County Friends of the Archives at the Monroe County Courthouse. During her final years , she enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family. Sallie was a devoted and loving wife of Evangelist Burkett McCann, Sr. and traveled extensively with him as he proclaimed the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you to everyone who supported them throughout their ministry. Mrs. McCann was the daughter of the late Clayton Yarber and Gracie Marie Bledsow Yarber and was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Reverend Burkett McCann, Sr.; daughter, Linda Mae McCann; son-in-law, Harold Weaver; grandsons, Harold Weaver, Jr., Dion Lee Smith, Sr. and great-grandson, Dion Lee Smith, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Mrs. Geraldine McCann Hicks and husband, Dennis W. Hicks of Tellico Plains, Mrs. Dortha Ann McCann Weaver son, Burkett McCann, Jr. and wife Lois Ann Cross McCann, daughter, Mrs. Lucretia Geraldine Brown Nicholson and husband, Tony Nicholson all of Cleveland; grandchildren: Cyrethia Hicks Munger and husband, Jeff Munger of Etowah, Dennis W. Hicks, Jr. and wife Tanya Hall Hicks of Tellico Plains, Tony Weaver and Phillip Weaver both of Cleveland, Mrs. Tammie McCann Elrod and husband, Robert Elrod of Georgetown, Jonathan McCann and Jacob McCann both of Cleveland, Mrs. Angel McCann Milligan and husband Chris Milligan of Guntersville, AL, Melissa Smith, Bud McCann and wife Geneva McCann, Sarah Nicholson and Matthew Nicholson all of Cleveland, great-grandchildren: Zackary and Tyler Munger of Etowah, Sallie Mae Hicks, Dennis W. Hicks, III of Tellico Plains; Holly Weaver Salaices, Hailey, Megan, Bryan, Paige, Austin and Reece Weaver and Sydney Cross all of Cleveland, Hope, Chelsea, Nathaniel Elrod all of Georgetown, Deestiny Beaty, Luke, Morgan, Matthew Milligan all of Alabama, Michael Sewell, Thomas, Jessica McCann, Alicia, Justin Smith all of Cleveland; great-great-grandchildren: Cameron Hardwick, June Salaices, Kayle Durham all of Cleveland and life long friend Polly Waller of Ten Mile. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Spoken Word Tabernacle, 1934 Circle Drive SW, Cleveland, TN with guest speakers Pastor Howard Carroll, son-in-law, Brother Dennis Hicks, Sr. and Reverend John Wesley McCann officiating. Interment will follow in Hayes Shed Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends after 4:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
