Nancy Chapman, 79 of Cleveland, TN passed away Monday, January 10, 2011. She attended Allen Elementary and Bradley Central High School in the class of 49. In high school she was known as an entertainer, participating in on stage variety shows, and for her love to dance, especially the Jitterbug, which she excelled at! After high school she was active with the graduating class, they call themselves the ’49ers”. She married her high school sweetheart, celebrating 60 years of happy marriage in 2010. They started making memories together as husband and wife in Fairbanks, Alaska, where David was stationed in the Air Force. She talked about their adventure in the frozen arctic often and fondly. They spent some time in California then returned to Cleveland Nancy loved her family, first and foremost. She was a loving wife and mother, who always made things special, particularly the holidays. She was very active in her children’s lives participating at school as room mother, Cub Scout den mother, shuttling kids anywhere and everywhere, dance lessons, baseball, swimming pool and parties. Her family loved her dearly, and will miss her sparkling personality at their family gatherings. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, family vacations, camping and being with people. Her friends and family describe Nancy as being vivacious, entertaining, and fun to be around. She loved being outdoors in nature, working with her patio flowers, and walking on her favorite trails in the mountains. She is preceded in death by her parents, A.B. and Lille Belle Armstrong; sister, Martisha Collins and an infant daughter Sondra Ann. She is survived by her husband, David Chapman; daughter Lisa Collins and her husband Keith Collins, their sons Casey and wife Emily Collins and Colton Collins; son, Mark Chapman and his daughter Michelle Dover and five great grandchildren all of Cleveland; brother, Jimmy Armstrong; sister, Belva Dean McAlister of Charleston; three special sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. Her family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the funeral home prior to the service.
