Kate Deweese Berning

Kate Deweese Berning, 89, of Cleveland died January 16, 2011 while a resident of Garden Plaza Assisted Living. Kate was born in Hayesville, NC; was raised in Cleveland, TN; then lived most of her adult life in Santa Monica, CA. She later moved back to and was currently residing in Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Berning and son Gregory Ford; parents Mr. and Mrs. T.D Deweese; three brothers Ted, Willard and John and one sister, Christine Campbell. Kate was of the Christian faith and enjoyed spending time reading her Bible. She attended Bradley County schools and later graduated from UCLA with a degree in Apparel Design. She was a veteran of World War II and was recently honored by Garden Plaza for her service to our country. She was an avid square dancer, having the opportunity to travel and dance in many countries. She is survived by two sisters, Ulene Cader of Tampa, FL and Vivian Overin of Shell Beach, CA; two brothers, Ray Deweese of Cleveand, TN and Don Deweese of Fayetteville, NC; caretakers Kay Deweese Robinson, Nancy Deweese Patrick, Margaret Pelley; numerous nephews and nieces; and good friend Joy Parris at Garden Plaza.
