Pernell Richard Ownby, 50, a life long resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 in Chattanooga healthcare facility. He was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School class of 1978, where he was co-captain of the football team and was active in the F.F.A. He was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Ownby; brother, Darryl Ownby; and nephew, Forrest Carroll. He is survived by his wife, Sheryl Ownby; parents, Ray and Myrtle Ownby all of Cleveland; two children: Brandi Cripe of Warner Robbins, GA; Jacob Ownby of Cleveland; two step sons: Chad Ross of Jasper and Scott Ross of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Caelan Cripe, Cairhien Cripe and Scarlett Ownby; five step grandchildren: Caytlin Ross, Nicole Ross, Savannah Ross, Taylor Ross and Samantha Baker; one sister, Diane Carroll of Johnson City; two nephews: Noel Carroll and Kirby Ownby; sister-in-law, Gail Ownby of Cleveland. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at New Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Larry Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in New Friendship Cemetery with Billy Ownby, Kirby Ownby, Noel Carroll, John Glover, Chad Ross, Scott Ross, Donnie Ownby and Josh Bain serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
