Ethel Park Hogue

Ethel Park Hogue, 84, of Cleveland, TN passed away on October 6, 2010 in a Chattanooga hospital. She was born November 25, 1925 in Bronx, NY. She was married September 15, 1945 to the Reverend James L. Hogue, Sr. in Deland, FL. As a Presbyterian minister’s wife she served the church in many capacities and locations. She was a Sunday school teacher, choir director, organist, Elder and sometimes served as the church secretary. Their ministry began in southern Indiana and took them to churches in Indianapolis, Denver, Sacramento, Albuquerque, Cincinnati, New Jersey and Ooltewah, TN. At the time of her passing she was an active member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN. She enjoyed participating in the Living Water, Living Spirit service, Lunch Bunch, and Jubilation weekends. God’s calling took them to many different places, and they continued to visit friends throughout the country all their lives as they loved to travel and explore new areas, be it locally or far and wide. She continued to travel as long as she was able. She was an elementary school teacher, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister-in-law. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting for her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, James, her parents Dr. David and Hilda Park, her beloved brother David Park, and her beloved sister and brother-in-law Reverend Oliver and Rosemary Williams. She is survived by her four children, son, James L. Hogue, Jr. and wife Sherry of Cleveland, TN; son, the Reverend Kelsey G. Hogue and wife Debbie of Scottsbluff, NE; daughter Kerrilee Blunt and husband Dave of Sacramento, CA; daughter Janeil Hogue of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Christy Duncan and husband Stephen of Cleveland, TN; David Hogue and wife Kristin of Trussville, AL; Jamie Rumsey and husband Ian of Thornton, CO; Scott Brunson of Sacramento, CA; Petty Officer 2nd Class Kelsey G. Hogue of Dover, NH; great-grandchildren, Jack Duncan, Carson Rumsey, Lucy Duncan, Hayes Hogue, and Tobin Rumsey. The memorial service will be at Broad Street United Methodist Church Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Debbie Stokes and Pastor Reed Shell officiating.. The family will receive friends before the service from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Interment of ashes will be held later at Louisville Theological Seminary. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church Youth or Mission Funds, PO Box 3, Cleveland, TN 37364. Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
