Vida Parker Avery, 91, of Erwin, NC, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Garden Plaza Senior Living Community, Cleveland, TN. She was a partner in Church of God ministry with her husband for more than 40 years. She was the daughter of the late Seba Swindell Parker and Macy Hall Parker of Sampson County, NC. Mrs. Avery was preceded in death by her husband the Rev. S.W. Avery, and son, Jack D. Avery. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Erwin Church of God by the Rev. Alton Childers and Currie Parker. Burial followed at Erwin Memorial Park. Survivors include sons, Sen. Bill Avery of Lincoln, NE, and James Mack Avery of New York City, both graduates of Lee College; daughter-in-law Ann Harrell Avery, of Lincoln, NE; foster daughter, Doris Avery Beck and husband Clay of Lexington, NC; sisters Ruth Stewart of Raleigh, NC, and Joyce Jackson of Dunn, NC; grandchildren Kevin Avery of Trenton, GA, Amanda McConnell and Elizabeth Kaylor of Cleveland, Alex Avery of Lincoln, NE; and three great-grandchildren.
