Matthew David Hanes, 21, a resident of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 in West Virginia. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of Cleveland High School Class of 2007 where he was an honor student and a Tennessee Scholar. He played soccer at Walker Valley and also played lacross for Cleveland LaCross Club. He was a former member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Scout Troop. He attended Tennessee Tech for one year. He was a raft guide for Ocoee Outdoors for the past three seasons and was an avid outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Alvin Winslow Floyd,a Green Beret who was killed in action in VietNam. He is survived by his parents, David K. and Teresa A. Hanes of Georgetown; two sisters: Ashley N. Hanes of Chattanooga and Anna T. Hanes of Georgetown; grandparents: Laverne Coulter and Ernest Coulter of Louisville, KY and Kenneth and Doris Hanes of St. Mary’s, PA; several aunts and uncles also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Pastor Heath Eslinger officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Robinson, Rob Hampton, Tyler Jackson, Daniel Jackson, Stephen Jackson, Burch Hays Robert McLaughlin; Honorary pallbearers are Jared Cole, Casy Butler Marcus Williams, Kayla Leeper, Eric Russell, Josh Allen, Treyton Collins Sarah Denham, Jody Russell, Bailey Feehrer, Meresa Verholek, Josh Hogan Maria Housley, Courtney Colvin, Cody Brown and his family at Ocoee Outdoors. His family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home.
