Harry J Eversole

June 30, 1939 — December 12, 2014

Harry J. Eversole, 75, was carried away on wings of angels on December 12, 2014 after a long battle with cancer.  He is at rest with his heavenly Father whom he has been longing to see.  Harry was born in Covington, KY on June 30, 1939 and was raised in Harlan County and Hazel Patch, KY.  He never lost sight of his bluegrass blood.  He went to work in the Kentucky coalmines at a very young age and was self made man.  Having a father retired from the railroad he developed a love of trains and took several train excursions.  As an adult he and his wife traveled back to Kentucky to all the railroad museums there and much to his delight he was allowed to help connect the train cars and start the engine at one railroad yard.  He also enjoyed going to see the ocean and the Smoky Mountains.  He loved going to church and loved his church family at Philippi Baptist Church.  He moved to Cleveland about 32 years ago where he met the love of his life and has been happily married for the last 30 years.

Harry was preceded in death by his father, Harry C. Eversole and mother, Leona Houdeshell; sister, Betty Torres; stepfather, Charlie Houdeshell; his beloved step-mother, Billie Jean Eversole and his father-in-law Bill Phillips.

He is survived by his loving devoted wife, Devonia M. Eversole; very special daughters, Teresa Lykins (Lynn) and Linda Eversole of Kentucky; brothers, Donnie Eversole (Shirleen) of KY, Robbie Eversole of GA, Gary Eversole (Donna) of McDonald and Wayne Eversole of Cleveland; step-sons, Carl Swilling (April), Matthew Swilling (Jennifer) and Adam Swilling , all of Cleveland and Dustin Swilling (Leslie) of FL; special grandchildren, Sabrina (Sissy) Lykins, Joseph (Tootie) Lykins of KY and Delaney Swilling of Cleveland, Donnie Eversole and Jessica Hall; four step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren;  mother-in-law, Lavonda Phillips and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members;  special friends, Gary and Karen Lynn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Philippi Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Hooker officiating.   Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery in McDonald with Gary Lynn, Glen Satterfield, Steve Kiser, Mike Isham, Jeff Spence and Darrell Bottoms serving as pallbearers.   Honorary pallbearers will be James Watson and David Stuman.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and he will lie in state on Monday from 11:00 – 12:00 at the church prior to the service.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Eversole family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
