Virginia Sue Dyer Penwell

Virginia “Susie” Dyer Penwell, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at her home.  Mrs. Penwell was a retired owner hair stylist at Susie’s Cut & Style and a member of Watt’s Bar Church of God.  A kind and a caring woman, Mrs. Penwell loved her family, singing in the choir at her church, and working at the Food Bank.

Mrs. Penwell was born on July 3, 1944 to the late Newman Hastings and Margaret Farris Dyer.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jim and Leon Dyer and her stepson, David Penwell Jr.

She is survived by her husband, David Wayne Penwell; daughter, Judy Samples Buckner (Morgan) of Athens, TN; and daughter, Cynthia Penwell (Kit) of Austin, TX; son, Randy Penwell (Linda) of Parkersburg, IA: grandchildren: Payton Tanner Graham and Christopher Thomas Smith of Athens, TN;  Alex Penwell, Carter King Penwell, and Kendal Montgomery of Austin, TX; Morgan Truax, Jamie Holkan, and Justin Penwell of Parkersburg, IA, Samantha Spooner of Clinton, IA, Briana Penwell of San Antonio, TX, and Dalton McIntosh of Omaha, NE; brother, Kenneth Dyer of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Mary McAmis of Cleveland; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Monday, May 15, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Connie Goins, Pastor Kelly Goins and Pastor Roger Roark officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Morgan Buckner, Wayne McAmis, Keith McAmis, Chad Hensley, Warren Chapman, and Lynn Taylor serving as pallbearers.  A white dove release ceremony with bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.
