Bishop William L. Coile

January 27, 1928 — July 28, 2017

Bishop William L. Coile, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 28, 2017.  He was born on January 27, 1928 to the late W.C. and Leota Coile.

He was an ordained bishop in the Church of God of Prophecy and spent most of his life in ministry.  He was an employee of the White Wing Publishing House for 12 years.  In the ministry, he served faithfully as an evangelist, a pastor, an area supply pastor, district overseer, a member of the orphanage board, and for 30 years as a member of the State Finance Committee and the Ways and Means Committee.

In his capacity as a full-time pastor which began in 1959, he shepherded the following churches in Tennessee:  Mt. Crest in Pikeville, Pine Ridge in Crossville, East Ridge in Chattanooga, Roberts Tabernacle in Westmoreland, and Columbia Church of God of Prophecy in Columbia.  In Cleveland, he pastored the Durkee Road, Spring Place Road, and Union Grove churches.  He was pastoring South Water Church of God of Prophecy in Gallatin, TN, when he retired in 1992.  At his passing, he was Pastor Emeritus at the Spring Place Road church.

In addition to his parents, Bishop Coile was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Coile; son, Tony Coile; sisters, Katherine Womack and Barbara Lankford; and brothers, John Coile and Mack Coile.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of almost 21 years, Thelma Coile of Cleveland;  son, G. Mack Coile of Cleveland, two step-sons, Tony Pridmore and Dennis Pridmore and wife Crystal, both of Cleveland; one brother, Wallace Coile and wife Joyce of Knoxville; and special friends, Ron and Phyllis Wright.

He was a beloved “Papaw” to 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.   He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and friends.

William Coile’s faithfulness to God and his knowledge of the Scriptures along with his personality, humor, and wisdom made him an exemplary Christian and a much-loved pastor, counselor, and friend.  He will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Ronald Wright and Pastor Wade Patterson officiating.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with bagpipes and a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
