James (Ronnie) Hill

October 1, 1940 — September 4, 2017

James Ronald (Ronnie) Hill, 76, a resident of Cleveland passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at his residence in the presence of his loving family. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston.  He was owner of TB Isbell and The Hill Agency. He served on the Charleston City Commission, the Board of Bradley County Nursing Home, and various boards and committees of insurance. Ronnie was a Boy Scout, a member of the Air National Guard and a volunteer fireman. He was formerly employed with Bowater. He received his 50 year pin as a Mason and a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge #484. He was a well-known member of the Bradley County Community and an avid golfer at Chatata Valley Golf Club.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert (Barney) Lee Hill and Mary Gibson Hill and his infant son, William Robert Hill.

 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen (Kay) Hill of Cleveland; children: Susan Finnell and husband, Joel; Catherine Rakestraw and husband Michael (Loodie), Jimmy Hill and wife, Missy; 7 grandchildren: Sloane Rakestraw, Holden Rakestraw, Chelsea Nipper, Harrison Finnell, Katie Finnell, Amanda Hill and Andrew Hill; sister, Diane Aiken of Gainesville, FL; several nieces and nephews and special caregivers, Calvin Jackson and Detra Green.

 

Memorial Services will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 7, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Spencer officiating.  A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday in New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony with bagpipes will conclude the service.

 

The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM, Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
