Sarah Lucille Varner (“Mamaw”), 85, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at a family residence. She had been a resident of Cleveland for over 70 years. She was a Godly woman and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. She attended many different community churches close to her home during her lifetime. She was a member of Benton Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Joe” Varner; parents, Arthur and Isabell Bowers; brothers, Elack and J.W. Bowers; daughter, Judy Morrison; grandson, Jeremy Anderson; son-in-law, James Cross; step-children, Bill Varner, Patricia Thomas; and step-grandchildren, James Varner and Gene Varner.
She is survived by five children, Peggy Bates and husband Richard, Debbie Anderson and husband James, Darrell Varner and wife LuAnn, Timmie Varner and wife Christina, and Patrice Dixon; two step-children, Virginia Woody and Jim Varner and wife Joella; five grandchildren, Bryan, Aaron, and Alyshia Varner, Venecia O’Bannon, and Misty McCalley; three great grandchildren, Jacob Anderson, Liam Varner, and Dylan McCalley; three step-grandchildren, Vicki Cavett, Kim Gregg, and Gina Bunch; brother, Bob Bowers; sister, Elizabeth Bowers; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Herron officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Ronnie Wilson, Jacob Anderson, Ben Casteel, Bryan Varner, Kevin Smith, and Aaron Varner serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at the funeral home.
