Jessie Ray Holmes

Jessie Ray Holmes, 82, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Monday, January 08, 2018 at a local healthcare facility.  He was a member of Red Hill United Methodist Church. He was retired from Bowaters after 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War.

Mr. Holmes was the son of the late Jessie Elmer Holmes and Ivy Terry Holmes and was also preceded in death by sister, Janet Evans and brother, Walter Holmes.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Giles Holmes of Cleveland; children: Greg Holmes of Cleveland, Yvette Waddell and husband, Michael of Mineral Bluff, GA, and Hollye Kile of Cleveland, TN; four grandchildren: Amber Holden and husband, Aaron, Nick Holmes and wife, Claire all of Cleveland, TN, Chadd Holmes and wife, Cara of Hendersonville, TN, and Courtney Vincent Johnston and husband, Dane of Cleveland, TN; great-granddaughter, Lyla Rae Holden; brothers, James Holmes and wife, Dorothy of Rockwood, TN, and Franklin Holmes and wife, Carrie from Stockton, CA, and Paul Holmes of Cleveland, TN; sisters, Judy Poteet and Wilma Trewhitt both of Cleveland, TN; and mother of his two children, Faye Holmes.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Terrill Littrel officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.  Nick Holmes, Chadd Holmes, Dane Johnston, Chris James, Roger Franks, Aaron Holden, and David Chase will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
