Dorothy Leda Voorhees

November 19, 1924 — January 23, 2018

Dorothy Voorhees, 93, was born November 19, 1924 went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.  She passed away peacefully in a local healthcare facility. In 1958, Dorothy and her family moved from Mohawk, NY to Stark, FL and from there to Jupiter, FL, where she worked for the United States Postal Services for many years.   In 1980 they moved to Ocoee, TN where she retired from the United States Post Office in Cleveland. 

Dorothy loved flower gardening and spent many hours working in her yard designing flower beds.  She was also an avid game player and especially enjoyed playing cards with a very competitive spirit.  She was valedictorian of her graduating class and a very skilled ping pong player and dancer.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Voorhees; her parents, August and Adefina Graudon; several brothers and sisters and granddaughter, Kimberly Dawn Voorhees.

Survivors include her two sons, Robert Gary Voorhees and wife, Sue, of Fredrick, CO and Gary Lee Voorhees and wife, Sheryl of Ocoee; four grandchildren, David Voorhees and wife, Lynn of CO, Laura DeSotel and husband, Scott of Mooresville, IN, Shawn Voorhees and wife, Beth of Cleveland and Matthew Voorhees and wife Natasia of San Francisco, CA; three great-granddaughters,  Nicole DeSotel, Alexandria Voorhees and Sloan Voorhees; three great-grandsons, Davy Voorhees, Sammy Voorhees and Ethan Voorhees; one great-great-granddaughter, Mical Voorhees; brother, Fred Voorhees of Paw Paw, MI; half-brother, Eddie Lynch and wife, Betty, of Illion, NY and several nieces and nephews.  

A celebration of the lives of Dorothy and her late husband, Robert will be held at the Voorhees’ Ocoee family home at a later date.  Dorothy requested a joint service upon her demise.  Burial will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
