Robert Looper

February 9, 1929 — March 25, 2018

Robert “Bob” Harold Looper, 89, was the firstborn son of The Rev. John H. Looper and Leona Cox-Looper, passed form this life on Friday, March 23, 2018, due to age related illnesses at the Standifer Place Health Care & Hospice Care of Chattanooga. He came into the world on February 9, 1929 in Piedmont, South Carolina. He joined the United States Army at age 18, where he thrived as a student of the Army’s Signal Corp. He served his country faithfully and was honorably discharged after his time of service to our nation.

 

In his professional life he went on to become an electrical engineer, working on various technological and electronic equipment. During most of his career he served as a licensed residential and indutrial electrician. Locally, he retired from Westvaco with over fifteen years of service. He was a gifted guitarist, which along with his wood working shop, became his most enjoyable hobbies. He was a member of the Restoration Fellowship Family Worship Center, in Cleveland.

 

He was preceded in death by his father The Reverend John H. Looper, his mother Leona Cox Looper, his stepmother, Dr. Martha Richardson-Looper,  his wife, Jean Scarborough-Looper; one son, Kenneth R. Looper, by one brother, Carzell Joseph Looper, and by three nephews – Tony, Chris, & Bradley Looper.

 

He is survived by his youngest son, David Looper and wife (Mary Lou); his God-Daughters Melody Craig-Flores and Crystal Aikman; grandchildren – Jason Looper, Kimberly Looper-Gray and Ray Looper. Additionally,he is survived by seven great grandchildren; three brothers – James, John & Garren Looper; two sisters, Doris Looper-McKinney (Roger) and Leona Looper-Kent(James) and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at 1:00 in his honor on Saturday, April 7, 2018 in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mauso-leum Atrium. He will be intered in the mausoleum, beside his late wife, following the service. Dr. John A. Looper, his pastor and brother, will officiate at the memorial service. The service is open to the public.
