Mary Rose Buxton

Mary Rose Broadus Buxton, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in a local healthcare facility.  She was a native of Mobile, Alabama.  She became a Christian at an early age and all of her life was active in church work.  A singer and pianist, for many years, she sang with a ladies quartet on a radio broadcast each Sunday in Mobile.

 Mary attended Bible Training School and College in Sevierville and later graduated with honors from Lee College (now Lee University).  The first to receive a degree in her family, she specialized in early childhood education and was the first person in Bradley County to receive kindergarten through third grade certification.  She excelled as a kindergarten teacher and taught for years in the Cleveland City School System.

 The wife of a minister, she was always at her husband’s side contributing much during their several pastorates.

 She was a charter member of Westmore Church of God.

 Witty and cheerful, Mary Buxton had many friends.  Though she suffered from acute arthritis and was constantly in pain, she was always optimistic and liked to laugh.

 She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Clyne W. Buxton of  67 years; one child, Clynette Buxton Pemberton who resides in Seymour, TN with her husband, Dr.Larry Pemberton.  She also leaves three grandchildren:  Valerie Rose Pemberton Leaverton and husband, Shawn who reside in North Port, Florida with their three children, Olivia, Gabbi, and Jacob; Jonathan Thomas Pemberton and his wife, Elisabeth who reside in Maryville, TN with their two children, Owen and Ashlyn; David Michael Pemberton and fiancé , Sara who reside in Oakland, California; also a host of relatives and friends.

 A celebration of Mary’s life will be conducted on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Westmore Church of God with Reverend Kelvin Page and Dr. Larry Pemberton officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony and bagpipes concluding the service. 

 The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
