Robert Ray Blackner

January 3, 1931 — August 2, 2018

Robert Ray Blackner, 87,  of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at his home.  He was a retired truck driver.  Robert had served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.  He was born in Johnstown, PA and lived in Cleveland since 2005.  He was a member of United Christian Church and he loved his family and his church.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Frank and Florence Hauscom Blackner; son Keith Blackner; three brothers, Jim Blackner, Frank Blackner, Jr. and Ed Blackner; sister, Blanche Lazrus and grandson, Leonard Miller, Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Verhelle Blackner; eight children, Wade Blackner of Pinecrest, FL, Linda Walters, Charlotte Miller and Kathy Blackner of Cleveland, Susan Best of Defiance, OH, David Blackner, Raymond Blackner and Kevin Blackner of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Alissa Knippen, Michael Best, Andrea Ellis, Corina Dunn, Robert Walters, Tab Blackner, Ethan Blackner, Joshua Blackner, Justin Tyler Blackner, Brittany Blackner, Samantha Blackner, Ashley Blackner, Joey Blackner, Mandy Blackner, Lindsey Blackner, Justin Blackner and McKenzie Blackner; sister, Dorothy Conzo of New Mojave Desert, CA and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Reverend Danny Emerson officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.  A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018 at the funeral home.
