Hazel Elizabeth Arp

January 24, 1933 — August 1, 2018

Hazel Elizabeth Arp, 85,  of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 in local healthcare facility.  She enjoyed working in the garden and being outdoors.  By her own admission she was a “master” gardener and had a “green” thumb.  She and her husband James were world travelers with the local retired teachers. She had retired from Magic Chef/Maytag, where she was a proud member of the International Molders and Allied Workers Union.  She volunteered at the Crisis Ministry at Big Spring Baptist Church for many years.  She really loved her church family at Big Spring Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-six years, James F. Arp, who passed away in September of 2017; her parents, Reverend Newt and Pearl Davis and siblings, Howard Davis, Jimmy Davis, Jewel Davis and Shirley Miller.

She is survived by her children, Sandy Thomas (Dennie) of Frisco, TX, Tony Arp (Marcella) of Cleveland and Lamar Arp (Kim) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Dallas Thomas (Stephanie) of Carrollton, TX, Amanda Arp-Beckler (Jamie) of Cleveland, David Arp (Amanda Robinson-Arp) of Cleveland, Riley Arp of Cleveland and several great-grandchildren; siblings, Herbert Davis of Columbiaville, MI, and Doris Davidson (Gerald) of Flowery Branch, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Daniel Malone and Lee Arrington officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dallas Thomas, David Arp, Riley Arp, Amanda Arp-Beckler, Gideon Mantooth, Keith Davis, Kermit Peak and Presley Turner serving as pallbearers.  A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

A special thanks to neighbors Jim and Pat Minor, Jerry and Carol Underdown and Mike Jellies for always checking in on Hazel and James,  great neighbors are hard to find. Also special thanks to Bradley Healthcare for their care and attention to Hazel over the years.

The family requests that memorials be donated to, Big Spring Baptist Church, 1415 Hardwick Street SE, Cleveland, TN 37311.

We invite you to send a message of condolence and view the Arp family guestbook at www.ralphbuckner.com.
