Betty Iva Lee Eads

January 20, 1928 — December 8, 2018

Betty Iva Lee Manies Eads passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 in a Cleveland healthcare facility.  She was born in Seco, KY, on January 20, 1928 to Walter Thomas and Lura Edna Connelly Manies.  She moved to Spring City, TN, at a young age.  After graduating from Spring City High School in 1948, she moved to Chattanooga and worked at DuPont for the next 15 years.

After her marriage to Charles Jahew Eads, Jr., at Spring City United Methodist Church on May 31, 1953, they moved to Cleveland, TN.

She started playing tennis at an early age and continued to play as an adult.  Teaching tennis at the Cleveland Day School for several years was a special joy.  She also organized many tournaments as well as playing in them.  Another pastime she enjoyed was playing bridge.  She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross for many years.

She was a longstanding member of Broad Street United Methodist Church.   She served in many ways at the church, including teaching Sunday school, mailing the church newsletter, and decorating at Johnston Woods for special occasions.  Her true love at the church was singing in the Chancel choir.

In addition to her parents and husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Walter Edward Manies, James Orly Manies; one sister, Erma Jean Manies; and a special nephew, Walter Theodore Manies.

Mrs. Eads is survived by one niece by marriage, Liz Manies, of Decatur, AL.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Micah Nicolaus, Reverend Betsy Switzer, and Reverend Mary Parson officiating.  Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

A gathering of friends will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested be made to be choir fund at Broad Street United Methodist Church, 155 Central Avenue NW, Cleveland, TN 37311 (www.bsumc.org) or the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37839, Boone, IA  50037-0839 (www.redcross.org).
