John Edward Wilhoite, 77, of Birchwood, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, in a local hospital. He was born in Meigs County and had lived in the area his entire life. He was a retiree of ADM Milling Company with 32 years of service. He was a member of Burdette Baptist Church in Birchwood. He loved John Deere lawnmowers and baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. D. Wilhoite and Bessie Rogers Wilhoite; daughter, Lisa Erwin; grandchildren, Matt Wilhoite and Sherry Judd; and brother, Franklin Wilhoite.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margie Dean Millard Wilhoite; two children, Ricky Wilhoite and wife Ann of Birchwood, and Joyce Judd and husband Gene of Decatur; two grandchildren, Stan Judd and Riley Swafford; one great-grandchild, Austin Judd; two sisters, Patsy Nicholson, of Georgetown, and Sally Nicholson and husband Roy of Lafayette, GA; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend David Evans officiating. Interment will follow in McInturf Cemetery with Stan Judd, Austin Judd, Tony Rogers, Pete Rogers, Greg Bacon, Bill Gross, and Terry Nicholson serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the funeral home.
