Kenneth "Kenny" E. Benson

Kenneth “Kenny” E. Benson, 68, a resident of Georgetown went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Kenny earned an Army Commendation Medal for his service in the Vietnam War from 1970-1971 as a Specialist 4 and was honorably discharged.

Kenny retired in June 2010 from Duracell with almost 40 years of dedicated service.

Hard work was Kenny’s life creed.  In his spare time away from Duracell, he built and maintained several mobile home parks and houses in the Cleveland vicinity.

As an avid lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and driving his Massey-Ferguson tractor.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Benson; two brothers, John and Warren Benson; and brother-in-law, Phillip Riddle.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Joy of Georgetown; his mother Louise Benson of Cleveland; mother-in-law, Carolyn Riddle of Georgetown; brothers-in-law, Billy Riddle and Paul Riddle, both of Cleveland; a treasured niece, Stephanie Riddle; a dear friend, Joe Smartt; and several more nieces and nephews, and many old and dear friends survive.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend David Disney officiating.  Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Paul Riddle, Paul Riddle, Jr., Todd Woodard, Joe Smartt, and Dewayne Stewart serving as pallbearers.  A white dove release ceremony and the playing of bagpipes will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, and as a remembrance of Kenny and his love for animals, the family requests donations be made to the Ark of Cleveland, 240 Oak Street, NW, Cleveland, TN  37311.
