Charles Roland Thompson

Charles Roland Thompson, age 77, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.  Born in Manatee County , Florida on June 24, 1939 to the late Leonard and Carrie Lee Stephens Thompson, he had lived in Meigs County for the past thirty plus years.  He never met a stranger, caring for everyone and helping anyone in need. He loved spending time with his family and was a member of Old Washington Baptist Church in Dayton,TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Luella Johns; and brother, Leonard W. Thompson.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Susan Rivers Thompson of Decatur; children, Shari Lynne Wintermute and husband Doug of Cleveland, Georgia, Chuck Thompson and wife Sherry of Chattanooga, and Wendy Rich and husband Scott of Decatur; grandchildren, Brian Wintermute, Laura Roach, Melissa Wintermute, Alex Thompson, Luke Thompson, Donnie  Parton , Nikki Tilley, and Brad Parton; great-granddaughter, Veronica Kate Parton; and niece Terry Belcher and husband Mike of Wesley Chapel, Florida.

 The family will hold a private service at a later date.
